Mineola, New York, is a village on Long Island in the Town of North Hempstead in Nassau County. The name is derived from an Algonquin word meaning “pleasant place.” The Incorporated Village of Mineola is in the center of Nassau County, east of New Hyde Park and west of Garden City. Mineola’s history dates back to the 1600s when the Matinecock Native American tribe first settled it. The tribe sold the land to English settlers in 1643, and the village was officially founded in 1788.
